The necessary knowledge in order to progress in this subject correspond to Diet therapy 1, Professionalising seminar 2, placements 1 and the subjects taken during the 3 years of the degree course.

SUBJECT DESCRIPTION

The aim of this subject is for the student to gain contact with a professional, working environment, aided and guided by professionals from the working and university environment. Placements are carried out in the Medical and community field.



OBJECTIVES

Graduates of our programme acquire the following skills and competences:

Knowledge of different fields of work which require the professional intervention of a diploma-qualified nutritionist

How to perform in different professional contexts as a specialist in Human Nutrition and Dietetics.

With these objectives in mind work experience placements 2 contributes to the achievement of the following competences: Ability to analyse and synthesise; Ability to organise and plan; Oral and written communication in the mother tongue; Knowledge of a foreign language; Context-related computer skills; Ability to administer information; Ability to solve problems; Decision-making ability; Ethical commitment; Ability to work as a member of a team; Ability to work as a member of an inter-disciplinary team; Interpersonal skills; Critical awareness; Ability to work in an international context; Recognition of diversity and cultural differences; Self-directed learning skills; Quality-oriented motivation; Ability to adapt to new situations; Creativity; Initiative and enterprising spirit; Leadership skills; Knowledge of other cultures and customs; Sensitivity to environmental issues; An open where the latest technology is concerned; A desire to be challenged and develop continuously.

CONTENTS

Graduates of our programme acquire the following knowledge and develop the following skills:

  • Gain knowledge of different fields which require the professional practice of a human nutrition and dietetics graduate.
  • Perform in different professional fields (medical and community) as a specialist in human nutrition and dietetics.

The objectives of the placement in accordance with the context and typology of the centre are:

  • Medical area: placements may take place in hospitals, clinics, primary healthcare centres, etc. The objectives are:
  1. To learn to apply a complete nutritional plan
  2. Identify the patient’s nutritional needs
  3. Be able to make nutritional / dietetic recommendations to the patients
  • Community field: practice can be done, for example, in companies focused on nutritional education or public administrations.The objectives are:
  1. To elaborate a nutritional education programme
  2. Know how to apply a nutritional education programme

METHODOLOGY

Professional practice in registered specialised centres, where the student makes contact with the professional realities or areas related to nutrition/dietetics, under the guidance and supervision of a monitor responsible for the placement: (16,3 ECTS) which involves attendance and time to elaborate practical reports to be presented by the student. The student thereby gains the competences corresponding to the placements module.

(0,7ECTS) Individual tuition, with the university placements tutor, to review and conduct the placement done by the student, as well as the material and reports to be done by the student. The student thereby gains the competences corresponding to the placements module.


EVALUATION

50% is awarded to the following: assessment of the work and activities developed in the placement centre via a report from the centre (guide of assessment of competences appropriate to each centre)

25% is awarded to the following: assessment of the work and activities developed in the placement centre according to the placement tutor (university teacher).

25% is awarded to the following: final report of practical activities presented and defended by the student, in which the work carried is explained in detail during the placement period.

Each part must be passed with at least a 5.


CRITERIA OF EVALUATION OF RESULTS

Objective 1:

  • The student must display knowledge of a range of areas requiring the professional practice of a graduate of Human Nutrition and Dietetics

Objective 2:

  • The student must display an ability to perform in a range of professional fields as a specialist in Human Nutrition and Dietetics
